'The Paradox of our Age'
We have bigger houses, but smaller
families; more conveniences, but less
time.
We have more degrees, but less sense;
more knowledge, but less judgements;
more experts, but more problems;
more medicines, but less healthiness.
We've been all the way to the moon
and back, but have trouble crossing the
street to meet our new neighbour.
We build more computers to hold more
information, to produce more copies
than ever, but less communication.
We have become long on quantity, but
short on quality.
His Holiness the Dalai Lama
(as given to our family in another family's christmas letter this year)
i feel this says so much, and people question me and my intent when i do that little extra to help them out or make them smile, cos we do live in a world which is falling apart socially, and also the state of public health is sickening, i know few people that live by this poem or whatever you would call it, message, i guess, but those who do are amazing people, the type that really are appreiciated in life, and of whom there should be more.
